Carpentry Worker
The position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, House Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent, Tenant Services Division, Carpentry Branch. The incumbent assists journey level workers in the performance of carpentry duties. The House Office Buildings seeks temporary Carpentry Workers for the upcoming 120th Congressional Moves. Workers will terminate at the conclusion of the project. Since office moves are scheduled 6 days a week, overtime may be required and will be mandatory.
These positions are temporary for the 120th House Office Buildings Congressional Moves. The job term may end when projects are completed, or funding expires. This position will be used to fill Day and Night shifts. Shifts will be determined and or change based on Operational Needs of Management. Hours may change depending on Operational Needs of Management. Carpentry Worker: Carpentry workers at this grade level measure, cut, construct, install, repair and modify wood, composite and wood substitute items where specific fit and accuracy are within allowable limits to produce a serviceable product. The work may involve construction, alteration, repair or modification of items and structures (such as wood and metal stud wall framework, walls, wood flooring, ceiling tile, suspended ceilings, dry wall, doors, door frames, finished paneling, windows, furniture, counter tops, interior and exterior trim) where accuracy, spacing and fit are essential to structural soundness and appearance. Responsibilities: Applying standard measurements, specifications and instructions when constructing, installing or repairing items such as frame structures, decking, partitions, shelving, doors, forms, siding and scaffolds. Utilizing wood, composite materials, wood substitutes and woodworking techniques, as well as basic shop mathematics to plan, measure and lay out materials according to dimensional requirements and specifications. Following specific instructions and is aided through the use of templates or preplanned or precut materials. Fabricating or assembling furniture and moldings and installing items that may be closely joined to other assemblies to strengthen and/or support or to provide air and weatherproof assemblies. This requires close tolerances, precise fit and finished appearances. The worker use a variety of carpentry tools including hammers, saws, chisels, routers, joiners, band and jig saws, latches, drill presses and disc and belt sanders. Performing other related duties as assigned.
